1. Regularly visit an Eyecare Practitioner: 

It is recommended by experts that you see an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) on a regular interval to keep tabs on any changes in your vision and detect any potential health challenges as early as possible, and treat it.

Also learn more about your eyes so that if there is any change in your eyes or vision, you can ask your doctor questions concerning it.

2. Eat a Balance diet:

Good nutrition helps in keeping the eyes in good condition. Eating well is the first line of action in care of the eyes. omega-3 fatty acid, lutein, lycopene, zinc, beta-carotene, vitamins A, E and C are important for maintaining your eye health and prevents age related vision problems.

3. Get a Regular Exercise:

Engaging in good exercise regularly helps to prevent diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure which can lead to chronic eye problems which may impair your sight.

4. Maintain a Healthy Weight:

Obesity or being overweight will increase the risk of diabetes which put in a higher risk of getting glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy. So, you must monitor you your diet as well weight to prevent getting of weight which may lead to other problems.

5. Wear sunglasses:

Exposing your eyes to the sunlight can increase the risk of getting age related eyes problems (like muscular degeneration), keratitis (inflammation of the cornea), cataracts, or corneal growths. Always wear your sunglasses when under UVA and UVB lights.

6. Don't Smoke:

Smoking increases the risk of age related muscular degeneration and cataracts and other eyes problems. It can also damage the optic nerves which will have adverse effect on your vision with time.

7. Get plenty of sleep:

Lack or inadequate sleep can contribute to eye fatigue which may include dryness or excessive tears, blurred or double vision, irritation of the eyes, pain in the neck, back or shoulder, and light sensitivity. Always get enough sleep in the night to prevent eye fatigue. 7-8 hours sleep is recommended for adults.

8. Wear google when Necessary:

Always wear you googles or any other eye wears while working with power tools, chemicals or in any environment with airborne particles. This will prevent particles from entering and causing damage to your eyes.

9. Avoid Rubbing your eyes and always wash your Hands: 

The hand is mostly exposed to dusty particles, bacteria and dirt. Rubbing your eyes with this contaminated hand can transfer some of these particles into your eyes. Always wash your hand with clean running water to keep clean at all times in case if it touches the eyes.

Most people especially young people spend hours looking on a digital devices like phones, iPads, laptops. These devices emits radiations that can have adverse effect on the eyes. 

Keep you computer at least 20 to 24 inches away from your eyes. Try and blink often while working on a screen to help lubricate your eyes. More so, rest the eyes by taking your eyes away from the screen every 20 minutes and focusing on object 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

11. Remove your eye make-up at the end of the day:

Ensure to properly remove your eye makeup before going to bed. It is not advisable go to bed with your eye makeup.  Makeup, eyeliner or mascara can get into your eyes if you go to bed with it, thereby causing irritation.

12. Keep your surroundings clean always:

Exposure to dirt or dust can cause serious eye irritation and other eye related problems. Therefore, by keeping the places you frequent can help to prevent the dust, bacteria and dirt from getting into your eyes.
